Film Studies & Media Literacy

Film Studies is an introduction to the basic principles of film aesthetics such as mis-en-scene, cinematography, editing, and sound. Students will also be introduced to a historical context in which films were created. The course aims to provide students with the ability to understand what films mean, and how directors convey their thoughts cinematically.

Media Literacy is the ability to access and analyze various forms of media. In this course we will deconstruct media content from a wide variety of sources such as photographs, newspaper articles, advertisements, television, movies, documentaries, and

websites. During the course, students will develop an understanding of how this media influences us and how we in turn can influence others.
